Frequently Asked Questions

How Can We Help?

Air-tightness is truly a multi-disciplinary responsibility that relies on proper products and procedures from a number of trades including mechanical contractors and window and door suppliers, as well as those responsible for the air-tight building envelope. Trades who come before and after air-tight envelope components are installed need to respect the work done here to achieve air-tight targets as well.

Our success comes from our ability to identify problem areas, clearly communicate concerns and suggest fixes, and take responsibility for enough of the air-tight building envelope to ensure overall success.

Yes. This deposit allows us to better manage cash-flow rather than wait until the end of the project to bill out as we have done in the past. A small deposit also allows us to assess the seriousness of each client and ensure that our scheduling is locked in.

Modern homes are very important to complete to a high standard due to their susceptibility to moisture problems, mold, and rot. Although money can always be “saved” by cutting corners we prefer to do things properly and with the long-term health of the structure and occupants in mind.

Current minimum standards are not enough to protect either your pocketbook or your family’s health over the long-term. This is why building codes are changing so fast. Luckily, we stay ahead of the curve and thoroughly understand the reasons for higher standards!

No. We take great pride in achieving excellence on every project we take on but are unable to always explicitly guarantee targets are met due to vast variations in project conditions and the quality of work from other trades. However, we always achieve the best result possible with the materials and scope of work we are given, and can usually suggest innovative ways to move forward on even the most problematic projects.

It is best to get us involved early on in the project and avoid any diffusion of responsibility by having us complete the fullest scope of work possible.

Yes! Anything that has to do with insulation, water resistive-barriers, air-barriers, vapour control layers, or sound barriers we do. And thoroughly enjoy the work as well!

Roof & Ceiling Assemblies

Detailed with batt insulation and air/vapour barriers with the highest attention to detail since these are sensitive areas that need to be especially as air-tight as possible. Alternately, spray foam can be used to create an unvented assembly here if desired and allowed by the district.

Wood-Frame Walls

Rockwool or fibreglass insulations typically fill voids in exterior walls and are completed with meticulously detailed vapour-control layers and air-barriers. We are experts at achieving a “Grade 1 Energy Star Installs” which means the thermal layers are installed with very little voids, gaps, or unnecessary compression. Spray foam is sometimes used here as well.

Concrete Walls

Rigid insulation and/or batt insulations and air/vapour barriers are often used in combination to achieve a well-sealed exterior foundation without problems with condensation and wet wall assemblies common in the past. Spray foam can also be used here.
